    THE FIREMEN

Your hosts for this event are the Ligonier Township Volunteer Fire Department, Station #44. They recently realized that holding a bluegrass festival was the perfect way to bring folks to the beautiful Laurel Highlands for some great music and also to raise funds to help keep the fire department running. They're working hard to make this a top-notch event, both this year and for years to come.

From its creation in 1937, the volunteer fire department has been a bedrock of service to the community. The department was founded by Thomas G. Reid (first Chief), Harry Berkey (first President), John Roberts and W.H. Kinsey, following a fire in one of the homes in Waterford. Their first fire truck was built from an old ambulance. From that point on, the department continued to grow. Today they have 78 members (55 active) and average 285 to 300 calls per year.New Truck

While Keith "Sparky" and Mitzi Neiderhiser have been spearheading the festival planning, many of the firemen and auxiliary members volunteer to handle the "nuts and bolts" aspects of running the festival. Regular bluegrass festival attendees have come to expect ample parking, good camping, tasty food and great music, Station 44 intends to meet or exceed those expectations. They hope you'll come out and let 'em prove it.
